mAh to Ah converter
1 Ah equals 1,000 mAh. Divide a mAh rating by 1,000 to get Ah, or reverse the conversion to multiply Ah by 1,000. Voltage is not needed.
10,000 mAh equals 10 Ah.

The same quantity in your chosen unit
10,000 ÷ 1,000 = 10 Ah

These values describe the same quantity without a voltage assumption. Results are rounded for display; reversing uses full precision.
Compare two battery labelsDifferent voltages? Compare watt-hours, not just mAh.
Understand the conversion
A different scale for the same charge capacity
Milliamp-hours and amp-hours measure the same quantity. The prefix milli means one thousandth, so a 2,500 mAh cell has a charge capacity of 2.5 Ah.
A 10,000 mAh rating is simply 10 Ah written in a smaller unit. Both labels state the same charge capacity. To compare the energy of batteries at different voltages, convert their ratings to Wh instead.
Formula and worked example
Ah = mAh ÷ 1,000
mAh = Ah × 1,000
2,500 mAh ÷ 1,000 = 2.5 Ah. A 100 Ah rating is 100,000 mAh.
Unit reference: NIST conversion factors lists ampere-hours under electric charge and watt-hours under energy. The battery calculations here use nominal label voltage.

Common questions
Is 1,000 mAh the same as 1 Ah?
Yes. They are two ways to write the same charge capacity. The conversion factor is exactly 1,000.
Is mAh the same as mA?
No. mA measures current. mAh measures charge: current multiplied by time. A constant 500 mA flowing for two hours transfers 1,000 mAh, or 1 Ah, of charge.
Do Ah ratings add when cells are connected in series?
For matched cells, a series connection adds voltage while the Ah rating stays the same. A parallel connection adds Ah capacity. Converting units does not account for pack wiring; use the pack planner for series and parallel counts.
